LISTEN Paintings March 2008

These are the first paintings of the LISTEN series. This series was inspired after one late night at work, sitting around with a group of my female co-workers folding napkins and sharing stories. I found myself intrigued, sitting around in this circle of chairs, listening to each woman's story one by one...stories of baring children, labor and giving birth, marriages, the loss of parents or loved ones...I drove home that night with a strong feeling of inspiration and kept thinking about these images of chairs as a metaphor for the telling and listening of these personal and meaningful stories.
Each painting or drawing is made through the repetition of the handwritten word, LISTEN.
